Insulin resistance symptoms can indicate that you're heading toward diabetes. These symptoms are warning signs that normal production of insulin doesn't create a normal response in your body. Symptoms include fatigue, brain fog, bloating, sleepiness, and more. Read on to learn how to repair this potentially dangerous problem.
It's 2p.m. and lunch was over about 40 minutes ago. You're sitting in a meeting in a tight, stuffy room with bad light. Your eyelids feel heavy and you're having a hard time concentrating. You can hear the traffic noises outside and the rhythmic white noise is putting you into a trance.
But What About The Real Problem?
The feeling of wanting to take a nap could be telling you something. The brain fog that makes it hard to pay attention is actually one of the insulin resistance symptoms that might clue you in to a much bigger problem than the empty calories in that donut you ate!
Here's a little test to find out if you're experiencing insulin resistance symptoms
- Do you get grumpy or confused if you don't eat every few hours?
- Do you find it difficult to follow directions?
- Do you suffer from frequent intestinal gas?
- Do you have difficulty losing weight?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Are you sometimes depressed?
In a study conducted by researchers at Linkping University in Sweden, having insulin resistance symptoms is a sign of type 2 diabetes. Cell biologist Peter Strlfors of Linkping University reported in Molecular Medicine (April 2009) confirmation that a high-calorie, "super-size" diet leads to insulin resistance.
The findings showed that humans who ate fast food twice a day for just four weeks developed moderate systemic insulin resistance. (1)
In just one month, formerly lean people were on the path of destruction and developed a pre-diabetic condition!
Fortunately, the subjects of the study appeared to regain their health after they were allowed to return to their normal, healthy diets.
Dangerous Blood Sugar Levels
If four weeks of fast food can impair the function of insulin and begin the downward spiral into poor health, what can a lifetime of overeating and eating high carbohydrate diets do?
Insulin regulates blood sugar. It's also an important part of a balanced metabolism. When combating a lifetime of donuts, bagels, and drive-through fast foods, you may want some help.
You can improve insulin sensitivity by improving your diet. Eat less sugar. Eat more fruits and veggies. Use supplements containing resveratrol and coenzyme Q10.
These essential nutrients
- help alleviate insulin resistance symptoms (2),
- lower blood pressure,
- improve insulin sensitivity,
- and help manage blood sugar and fat metabolism.
You can be one of those people who never run out of energy. You can clear the brain fog and depression. Supplementing with resveratrol and coQ10 will help your body repair years of unhealthy lifestyle choices. (3)
As always, check with your personal physician before making changes to your diet, exercise or supplements.
