Here's an unlikely source of pain relief emu oil.

The Emu is the national bird of Australia. It is the second largest bird on earth right after the Ostrich. Emus were vital to the Aboriginal culture as a source of both food and medicine. Centuries of tradition proved that emu oil was useful for softening skin, for reducing pain and swelling caused by arthritis and for healing of wounds, burns and insect bites.(1)

Modern day testing reveals that Emu oil is:

Hypoallergenic no known side effects; has an irritation level equal to water

Anti-Inflammatory reduces stiffness, pain and bruising

Anti-bacterial & anti-fungal does not support the growth of either fungi or bacteria, which deems it virtually odorless and capable of a long shelf life

Non-comedogenic it won't clog pores due to how quickly it is absorbed (2)

Emu oil is safe to use directly on the skin. No need to worry about side effects or drug interaction. It can also be used on pets to relieve itching and hot spots.

A study done at the Forsyth Institute in Boston confirmed that emu oil applied to the skin has significant anti-inflammatory properties. (3) Another study, compiled from research done at Harner Burn Center in Texas, documented the use of emu oil in treating burns. Ten patients participated in a double blind study that tested emu oil against a placebo for six to twelve months. Photos taken at each stage of the healing process showed a noted difference in favor of the emu oil for reducing inflammation and scarring. The patients themselves almost unanimously favored the emu oil for ease of application and effectiveness.(4)

So where does emu oil come from? Today, wild populations of emus are protected by law and cannot be hunted for sport. Commercial emu farms are predominantly found in Australia, the United States, Peru and China. They are based on stock bred in captivity, which emus adapt very well to. (5) The American Emu Association was formed in 1989 to support the small farmers who raise emu and to foster commitment to humane livestock management. It is standard practice to provide the animals with specially formulated feed and spacious pens with ample room for growth and grazing.(6)

What can be more highly recommended than a natural remedy with thousands of years of proven use behind it?

Emu oil it's a healthy, healing alternative. And it's just one of the ingredients we use in our special cream pain relief formula (that works in minutes!).

As always, remember to discuss changes to your diet, exercise or supplements with a doctor first.

Until next time
